Clusty Cloud for Learning

Posted by mevingham on 28th October 2008

So, I just tired Clusty Cloud.  Not sure what major purpose this holds yet, but I am intrigued but what the query brought up as LEARNING.  I am thinking I like Wordle better as I can use my own words.  :)

I’m Just Not Getting It

Posted by mevingham on 27th October 2008

We had our second Superintenden’ts Conference Day on Friday.  Going in, I was pretty excited as we are able to have some “experts” come in and facilitate sessions for our teachers.  The one I was most excited about was an author and expert in the area of technology integration.

So, we had a really nice and really knowledgeable presenter for the integration of technology.  I arranged for the room, arranged for as many teachers as possible to partake in this session and arranged for the laptops.  The teachers got 30 minutes at the end of the day to “play.”  So, here I am asking teachers to risk some content to try some 21st Century Technology and web 2.0 with students, and they didn’t even get a chance to play throughout the day and get hooked into the content themselves.  AND she gave them lots to think about, but no time to process. I want learners to be engaged.

On a positive note ,the teachers loved the flip minos.  And a few asked if we could order some for the school.  I said YES as long they will use them.  I hope to see the requisition come through soon.  If not, you can bet that I will ask of their whereabouts!  :)

I loved the survey poll she used.  Yet, I couldn’t read the audience.  Are they just not ready to try new things?  Do most of us still not have text messaging on our phones?  Some pulled their phones right out and gave it a try.  Others didn’t.  Is that because the facilitator didn’t explain it enough?  I just don’t know.

Read the Words has potential.  Coteaching or not, I am sure that this has a use.  I wonder if anyone will give it a whirl.

The book tralier idea was a good one. Students make movie trailers for books that they are reading.  AND of course, there was a wiki that we didn’t even touch together.  I wonder if they know what a wiki is and isn’t.

So, I am coming off the weekend still a little perplexed about what to do next.  This presenter is supposed to come back in March.  What do I do now?
